Willen On Ice launches on the 7th of November! Have you grabbed your tickets yet? If not, there’s still time to secure your spot for an unforgettable experience.
Whether you’re a seasoned skater or lacing up for the first time, slipping on the ice can happen to anyone – and it’s all part of the fun!
To make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time at Willen On Ice, here’s a quick guide on what to do if you take a tumble while skating.
1. Stay Calm
If you fall, try to stay calm and take a moment to yourself. Falling is often more startling than painful, and you don’t have to jump back up straight away you can take a few seconds to steady yourself and this can make all the difference.
2. Protect your hands
Falling can often lead to the instinct to put your hands out to catch yourself. If possible, try to keep your hands close to your body to protect your wrists and fingers. Once you’re down, keep your hands in your lap to avoid accidents.
3. Get up safely
When you’re ready to get up:
- Roll onto your knees or get onto one knee.
- Place your hands on the ice in front of you for stability.
- Carefully push yourself up to a standing position, keeping your balance by leaning slightly forward.
If you’re struggling, don’t worry, one of our Willen On Ice team members can assist you. That’s what they’re there for.
4. Move to the rink’s edge
After standing up, take a moment to regain your balance and, if you’re comfortable, glide slowly toward the rink’s edge. Holding onto the barrier can help you regain confidence before you continue skating.
5. Take a break
Ice skating is all about balance and confidence, and sometimes a quick break is all you need to shake off a fall. There are plenty of seating areas around the rink so you can take a break and get ready to go back on the ice again.
6. Keep safety in mind
Falls are normal, but to help you stay on two feet, try keeping your knees slightly bent and your arms extended for balance. Remember to follow the rink’s guidelines, and skate in the same direction as others.
Falling is part of the ice-skating experience – even pros take a tumble now and then. Embrace it as part of the learning process and remember that everyone at Willen On Ice is there to have fun. Skating with family and friends during the festive season is a memory-maker, even if you spend a little time getting up off the ice.
We can’t wait to see you at Willen On Ice this season! Remember, it’s not about how many times you fall; it’s about how many times you get back up – and keep smiling.
